I find empty parking garages fascinating...

...especially empty parking garages during daylight hours...

...especially empty parking garages during daylight hours at a normally busing commercial shopping district like Reston Town Center.

There's something about an empty parking garage during daylight hours at a shopping center that reminds me of being in the desert...a suburban desert, sure, but a desert nonetheless.

I have this quirk in my personality when it comes to parking garages: I like to drive to the top parking level of a parking garage and walk down the stairs to my destination. I always do this, even when there's plenty of parking available at the lower levels.

Part of the reason I do this is for the excercise. Walking up and down several flights of stairs simply does the body good.

I also do it because I enjoy the panoramic views that are often visible from the highest level of a parking garage.

On a clear day, for example, one can see the Blue Ridge Mountains from the top floor of the parking garages at Reston Town Center.

I also like the fact that you don't often encounter other people on the top floors of parking garages...

...unless it's Christmas shopping season when every single available parking space is occupied!

My hike this weekend was a brisk walk around Reston Town Center.

I didn't have time to drive out to the Blue Ridge Mountains and hike because there's a rumor going around that I'm participating in a show titled Conflict that opens this week at the Greater Reston Arts Center and needed to stay close to the home base and prepare for my artistic fame and fortune.

That rumor about my artistic fame and fortune may be true.

Keep listening to the rumors.
